Obituary for Margie Virginia Jordan (Fisher)

Margie Virginia Jordan (Fisher)
Margie Virginia Akers Jordan ‘Margie’, 93, passed away with family by her side on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Heartfields, a facility she had enjoyed living in for 8 years in Fredericksburg, Va. She was enjoyed by the staff and other residents and had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2008.

Margie was born on June 9, 1923 to Estle Mae Blake Fisher and Elsie Homer Fisher in Summerlee, WVa. She was oldest of 4 children.

She graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1940 and loved going to the yearly reunions. She worked for C & P Telephone Company as a switchboard telephone operator for 17 years. When automation closed the switchboard office she went to work for Sears for 21 years, both of these jobs she loved. Margie was an avid bowler and for over 20 years she and her team participated in the annual WVa Bowling Tournaments. Margie married Charles ‘Charlie’ Jordan, March 26th, 1966, who taught her to play tennis and golf. She helped him with annual tennis clinics he offered every year in Oak Hill. Upon retiring Margie and Charlie moved to Daytona Beach, Fla. They loved their community and continued to play tennis, golf and bowl until 2009 when health issues caused them to move to Fredericksburg, Va.

Survivors include a son Arthur Akers Jr (Joan); two daughters, Linda Morris (Kenneth) and Jane Johnson (Joseph); four grandchildren, David and Michael (Lori) Akers, Chris Kirk and Kimberly Kirk-Newberger and three great grandchildren, Megan Kirk, Michael James and Amanda Rose Akers. Husband Charles ‘Charlie’ Jordan and daughter Deanna Sue Kirk preceded her in death.

Celebration of Life plans are incomplete.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
